Chitwan National Park Jungle Safari with Kathmandu Overview

Chitwan, located in southern Nepal, is well-known for its National Park, which is home to a wide variety of wildlife. The Kathmandu and Chitwan Tour seamlessly blends wildlife safari activities with cultural visits in the Kathmandu Valley.

You will go to several UNESCO World Heritage sites in Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu. These locations highlight the architectural wonders and old Buddhist and Hindu artifacts that are part of Kathmandu’s rich cultural legacy.

An excursion to Nagarkot, a hill station around 40 minutes drive from Bhaktapur, will revitalize you. In Kathmandu, you will get the opportunity to view the Pashupatinath Temple, Swoyambhunat, and Bouddhanath.

Chitwan’s subtropical forests provide a variety of jungle safari activities. Over 450 bird species, over 45 amphibian and reptile species, and 43 mammal species may be found in this reserve.

Kathmandu is about 155 km from the park. A jungle safari is the most popular method of exploring Chitwan National Park. The safari takes you far into the bush and can be done in a Jeep or on an elephant.

The Tharu people, who have a distinct way of life and culture, are among the ethnic groups who call the park home. Chitwan National Park is a place that should be on your bucket list regardless of your interests in nature, adventure, or culture.

Trip Highlights

  • Savour the Royal Bengal Tiger and the one-horned rhino.
  • Discover Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its abundant animals and biodiversity.
  • Tour of four distinct Kathmandu cultural heritage sites: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath.

  • Experience the traditional way of life and cultural performances of the nearby Tharu communities.
  • Visit an elephant breeding facility to interact with trained elephants.

Major Destinations Featured

Pashupatinath Temple

One of the most revered Hindu temples in Nepal is Pashupatinath Temple. Pashupatinath is more than simply a religious attraction. It is a blend of religion, art, and culture. The Pashupatinath Temple is situated on the eastern edge of Kathmandu, on both sides of the Bagmati River.

A well-known Hindu god, Lord Shiva, is the object of devotion in the historic temple complex. The temple is well known for its magnificent architecture, sculptures, and carvings. Among the many temple designs it exhibits are the Shikhara, Pagoda, and Dome styles, among others.

Gorgeous sculptures of God and griffins are carved onto the entryway and pillars around the temple space. Daily funerals for Nepalese people still take place on the Ghats, which are south of the temple.

Boudhanath Stupa

A Buddhist pilgrimage site, Boudha gets its name from its famous stupa. It towers 36 meters above the ground and is located around 6 km east of Kathmandu’s city. In 1979, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The enormous, painted eyeballs on the four corners of the harmika are one of the most distinctive aspects of the stupa. These eyes represent the Buddha’s all-seeing nature, and they are frequently supplemented by a third eye, which stands for knowledge.

From rooftop eateries and coffee shops, one may take in the stunning view of the stupa. Its beauty, tranquillity, and spirituality have made it extremely popular. As Tibetan and Buddhist pilgrims and monks repeat various Tibetan chants and mantras, the atmosphere seems more hygienic, spiritual, and polite.

Sunset or Sunrise view of Nagarkot

Located around 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu, Nagarkot is a well-known attraction (hill station). Nagarkot is a popular location in the valley for the sunrise, sunset, and the spectacular view of the Langtang range.

Nagarkot is also thought to be among the greatest places to have a picnic close to Kathmandu. Bhaktapur, an ancient city, is also traversed on the Nagarkot day trip itinerary.  Additionally, you will get the opportunity to tour this unique little city.

Jungle Safari in Chitwan

One of Chitwan National Park’s primary attractions is the Jungle Safari. Tigers, elephants, rhinos, monkeys, deer, and more may be found at Chitwan National Park, which is home to over 700 animal species.

In addition to the safari, visitors may take in the elephants’ river bathing at the elephant breeding center. To see animals up close, the Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour on an elephant’s back is also the finest option.

With a tropical monsoon environment, Chitwan National Park offers Jungle Safari tours all year round. Numerous adventurous activities, such as bird viewing, canoeing, elephant back safaris, forest walks, and more, are included in jungle safari trips.

On this day, your journey officially starts. Following breakfast, you visit Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites to start your sightseeing trip. You will see more than 500 years of Nepalese art and culture in Kathmandu Durbar Square.

The Licchavi dynasty and King Pratap Malla worked hard to create this square, which now encompasses a sizable area with palaces, courtyards, and temples. Due to its numerous temples, this location is also known as the Museum of Temples.

Following that, you will go a few km from Kathmandu Durbar Square to the Swayambhu temple. Foreigners often refer to Swayambhunath Temple as the Monkey Temple. Local pilgrims and devotees who do a ceremonial circuit around the stupa add to the magical ambiance.

The sleeping Buddha, the Buddha statue on the west side of Swayambhu, and the gold-plated Vajra “thunderbolt” placed on the east side of the stupa are all located inside the area.

You travel to the temple of Pashupatinath in the afternoon. One of Lord Shiva’s main temples, Pashupatinath Temple, is located on the banks of the Bagmati River. It is very forbidden to take pictures within the main temple area.

Once you have explored Pashupatinath, you proceed to Boudha. Its massive Mandala makes it one of Nepal’s largest spherical stupas. The pilgrims’ pilgrimage and meditation practices include walking the kora, a route that circles the stupa in a clockwise direction.

Best Time

Selecting the best season is crucial to making the most of the trip. The things you want to do and the weather will determine the ideal timing. This seasonal breakdown can assist you in making travel plans:

Spring (March to May):

The capital city of Kathmandu welcomes guests with pleasant temperatures and vibrant colors as flowers blossom, starting in the center of the city. In the spring, the scenery changes to a verdant paradise as you approach Chitwan.

As they forage in open spaces, animal activity is still high in the spring. Because species are so active during this season, birdwatching is also quite good. Chitwan’s forests are lush and make a stunning background for safaris when the weather is right.

Summer/Monsoon (June to August):

The weather at Chitwan National Park is hotter and more humid during this time of year. Heavy rains may ruin outdoor experiences and activities when the lush surroundings are at their most lovely and verdant.

But Chitwan and Kathmandu are also at their greenest, making for beautiful scenery. You should keep in mind that leeches and mosquitoes are widespread in jungle regions and that Chitwan’s lush forest makes it more difficult to observe wildlife.

Fall/Autumn (September to November):

A trip to Kathmandu and Chitwan in the autumn is a great option. It is easier to see animals on jungle safaris and hikes during these months because the park’s foliage is less thick. The temperature is just reasonable during this time of year—neither too hot nor too chilly.

The fall season in Nepal is when the majority of significant festivals, such as Dashain and Tihar, take place, allowing you to participate in cultural events. However, keep in mind that well-traveled hiking routes and renowned tourist destinations might get congested.

Winter (December to February):

The Kathmandu Chitwan Tour provides a singular and enthralling experience in the winter. Kathmandu offers excellent mountain vistas during this time of year, making it the perfect time of year for quick treks like Nagarkot.

Because of the arrival of migratory species, birdwatching is good as the journey progresses towards Chitwan. The milder temperature makes it more pleasant to go on jungle safaris, paddle, and visit Tharu communities.
