Annapurna Circuit Trek 14 Days Overview
What Is Annapurna Circuit Trek?
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is a classic Himalayan adventure in Nepal that takes you around the magnificent Annapurna massif through diverse landscapes, cultures, and mountain environments.
The trail passes through lush forests, terraced farmland, traditional villages, alpine meadows, and rugged high-altitude terrain. One of its major highlights is crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416 m / 17,769 ft.
Where Is Annapurna Circuit Trek Located?
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is located in the Annapurna region of central Nepal. The route passes through settlements such as Chame, Pisang, Manang, Yak Kharka, and Thorong Phedi before crossing Thorong La Pass.
After the pass, the trail descends to Muktinath and continues through the spectacular Kali Gandaki Valley toward the lower Mustang region and Pokhara.
How Long Does Annapurna Circuit Trek Take?
Our Annapurna Circuit Trek is a 14-day itinerary combining trekking, transportation, acclimatization, and time to experience the major attractions along the route.
Most trekking days involve approximately 5–8 hours of walking, depending on the section of the trail. The itinerary also includes an acclimatization day in Manang before continuing toward Thorong La Pass.
What Is the Maximum Altitude?
The highest point of the Annapurna Circuit Trek is Thorong La Pass at 5,416 m / 17,769 ft.
The gradual increase in elevation allows trekkers to adapt to the changing environment. Proper pacing, hydration, rest, and acclimatization are important when trekking at higher elevations.
Why Choose Annapurna Circuit Trek?
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is ideal for travelers looking for diverse Himalayan landscapes, dramatic mountain scenery, traditional villages, and rich local culture in one journey.
The route changes from subtropical valleys to alpine landscapes and dry high-altitude terrain. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, and other Himalayan peaks.
What Makes Annapurna Circuit Trek Special?
The trek is known for its dramatic change in scenery with increasing altitude. The trail passes through forests, waterfalls, terraced fields, apple orchards, mountain villages, alpine meadows, and arid landscapes around Manang and Mustang.
Crossing Thorong La Pass, visiting Muktinath, and walking through the Kali Gandaki Valley add major cultural and natural highlights to the journey.
This combination of landscapes, mountain views, high-altitude trekking, and cultural experiences makes the Annapurna Circuit one of Nepal’s most diverse trekking routes.
Is Annapurna Circuit Trek Suitable for Beginners?
The Annapurna Circuit Trek can be suitable for beginners with good physical fitness and proper preparation. Previous trekking experience is helpful but not essential.
Trekkers should be prepared for long walking days, steep ascents and descents, changing weather, and high-altitude conditions. The crossing of Thorong La Pass is particularly challenging, so following a gradual itinerary and allowing enough time for acclimatization is important.

What Permits Are Required?
Trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit require an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS Card. These permits help regulate trekking activities and support conservation and tourism management in the Annapurna region.
For the latest permit requirements and TIMS provisions, check the official Nepal Tourism Board information before departure.
What Insurance Do I Need?
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for the Annapurna Circuit Trek, as the route reaches 5,416 m / 17,769 ft.
Your policy should cover high-altitude trekking, emergency medical treatment, and helicopter evacuation/rescue where applicable. Always check the maximum altitude covered by your policy before starting the trek.
What Accommodation Is Available?
Accommodation is mainly provided in local tea houses and mountain lodges. Most offer basic but comfortable rooms, usually with twin beds and shared bathrooms.
At higher elevations, facilities become more basic. Tea houses generally provide a warm dining area where trekkers can eat, relax, and socialize.
What Meals Are Included?
The trek generally includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Tea houses serve a variety of local and international dishes, including dal bhat, noodles, rice, pasta, soup, potatoes, vegetables, eggs, and Tibetan-style meals.
Dal bhat is especially popular among trekkers because it provides a filling combination of rice, lentils, vegetables, and curry for long trekking days.

Annapurna Circuit Trek 14 Days FAQS
Expand AllAlthough trekking trails in Nepal are open every day of the year, the following are the best seasons to visit for an Annapurna Circuit Trek:
Autumn (September to November)
The days are warm in the fall, while the evenings are often astounding. This season provides you with a great environment in which to venture. Hikers frequently use this route during the autumn season. At this time of year, the magnificent vista of mountains is enchanting.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is also an excellent season to go on the Annapurna Circuit Trek. During the spring, the paths are brimming with rhododendrons and other flowers. Due to the after-rain effects, the weather is light, and the scenes are explicit. Despite being the second finest season for trekking, it is less crowded than autumn.
Is Annapurna Circuit Trek Difficult?
This walk takes a long time to complete, and most of the locations begin at higher elevations. During the Annapurna Circuit Trek, altitude sickness is a typical occurrence. People who have never gone on a journey before may encounter obstacles.
Keep the body hydrated and eat balanced food during the trek to avoid altitude sickness and overcome trek difficulty. During the walk, your mental and physical strength are equally important.
Tea houses are the primary form of lodging throughout the Annapurna Circuit Trek. As we ascend, the quality and standards of tea establishments decline. The tea houses here mostly feature rooms with two beds each.
To finish the Annapurna Circuit Trek, trekkers must get the following permits except for Nepali citizens:
- For SAARC member nations, the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) costs Rs 600, and for other countries, it costs Rs 2000.
- The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is Rs 200 for SAARC members and Rs 2000 for non-members.
Before starting the journey, you can receive this permit at Besisahar. Permits can also be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Pokhara and Kathmandu.
The Annapurna Circuit Trek does not require any prior trekking expertise. However, being physically and psychologically healthy is essential because this walk is so complex.
The majority of trekkers will encounter symptoms of altitude sickness. Trekkers frequently have headaches and a lack of weight, and AMS can be fatal depending on your ability to adapt. Therefore it is best to be precautious and take necessary actions like gentle walk on the uphill trails or staying hydrated at all times.
Yes, the majority of the trekking crews are in the position to help you apply and acquire the TIMS Card and the ACAP Permit. This may be advantageous in that all the paperwork will be arranged by the agency and the clients will be presented with all the relevant documents for the trek.
This service is normally covered in the charge when hiring a guide to lead you on the trekking trip.
