Best Time for the Nepal and Bhutan Tour
Spring: March to May
Spring is one of the best seasons for the Nepal and Bhutan Tour, offering pleasant temperatures, clear skies, and excellent conditions for sightseeing. The hills and valleys become greener, while seasonal flowers add color to the landscapes. This is a great time to explore Kathmandu, Pokhara, Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha without extreme weather conditions.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn is generally considered the best overall season for visiting Nepal and Bhutan. The monsoon has cleared the atmosphere, resulting in fresh landscapes, clear skies, and excellent Himalayan visibility. Temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing and cultural activities, usually making it easy to explore Kathmandu, Pokhara, Paro, and Thimphu.
Autumn is also an exciting cultural season in Nepal, as major festivals such as Dashain and Tihar usually take place during this period. Travelers may have the opportunity to experience traditional celebrations, local customs, and festive atmosphere.
Winter: December to February
Winter is suitable for travelers who prefer fewer crowds, peaceful surroundings, and crisp mountain views. Kathmandu and Pokhara generally have pleasant daytime conditions, although mornings and evenings can be cold. Bhutan can be considerably colder, particularly in higher areas, while lower destinations such as Punakha can remain relatively comfortable.
Winter is not ideal for high-altitude activities, but it can be an excellent time for cultural sightseeing, visiting monasteries, exploring heritage sites, and enjoying snow-covered Himalayan scenery.
Monsoon: June to August
The monsoon season brings frequent rainfall to Nepal and Bhutan, particularly between June and August. In Nepal, heavy rain can cause slippery roads, landslides, and occasional travel disruptions. Bhutan also receives substantial rainfall during the monsoon, especially in lower valleys such as Punakha.
Although the monsoon is not the preferred season for this tour, travelers can still enjoy cultural attractions, temples, monasteries, and city sightseeing. If traveling during this period, it is advisable to keep your schedule flexible because weather conditions may affect flights and road journeys.
Which Season Should You Choose?
For the best combination of clear Himalayan views, comfortable weather, cultural experiences, and smooth sightseeing, we recommend spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Winter is a good option for peaceful travel and fewer tourists, while monsoon is better suited to travelers who are comfortable with rain and flexible travel arrangements.
Visa, Documentation and Travel Information
Nepal Visa Requirements
Most foreign travelers need a tourist visa to enter Nepal, while Indian citizens do not require a visa. Eligible travelers can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or apply through a Nepali diplomatic mission before traveling.
The current tourist visa fees are:
- 15 Days: USD 30
- 30 Days: USD 50
- 90 Days: USD 125
You can complete the visa application online before arrival through the official Nepal Immigration Online Portal.
How to Enter Nepal
Most international travelers arrive by air at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, Nepal’s main international gateway. Direct and connecting flights operate from major cities in Asia and other international destinations.
You can also enter Nepal by road through designated border points from India or through Kodari/Tatopani from China, depending on your travel route and applicable entry permissions.
Documents You Should Carry
Before traveling, make sure you have:

- Nepal tourist visa or visa-on-arrival documents
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Confirmed international flight tickets
- Hotel booking or accommodation details
- Travel insurance
- Copy of your tour itinerary

- Digital and printed copies of important documents
The Nepal Immigration Department currently states that the passport should be valid for at least six months before travel.
Immigration at Kathmandu Airport
After landing at Kathmandu Airport, complete the arrival card and visa procedure if you are obtaining a Visa on Arrival. Then proceed to the immigration counter with your passport, visa application/receipt, and payment confirmation. After immigration and baggage collection, you can meet our representative outside the arrival area for your hotel transfer.
Important Note for Nepal and Bhutan Tour
Because this itinerary includes both Nepal and Bhutan, travelers should also check Bhutan’s current entry and visa requirements according to their nationality before departure. We recommend arranging the required Bhutan travel documentation in advance so your flights, accommodation, and sightseeing arrangements can proceed smoothly.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. Your policy should ideally cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage loss, and flight delays.
Currency and Payments
Nepal uses the Nepalese Rupee (NPR), while Bhutan uses the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN). Carry some local currency for small purchases, personal expenses, and local markets. Major hotels and businesses may accept international cards.
Useful Travel Tip
Keep your passport, visa documents, flight tickets, insurance information, and emergency contacts in an easily accessible place. Visa and entry regulations can change, so always verify the latest requirements with the relevant immigration and tourism authorities before departure.
