This journey offers a wonderful opportunity to stay in family-run teahouses and experience genuine local hospitality. Along the way, you will walk past sacred mani walls and spin Buddhist prayer wheels, sending prayers out to the mountain gods. En route, pay homage at ancient village squares and monasteries, interact with welcoming locals, and immerse yourself in traditional mountain cultures. Prepare to be awed by the sheer beauty of towering peaks and frozen high-altitude lakes as you take on the challenge of crossing Thorong La Pass to reach the edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
As one of the world’s quintessential long-distance routes, the Annapurna Circuit (also known as the Annapurna Round Trek) is a Himalayan adventure beyond compare. Taking you along some of the most famous trails in Nepal, this trek allows you to complete a full, rewarding loop through the Annapurna region. The terrain transitions dramatically—from lush, green terraced farms to stark, barren landscapes surrounded by soaring icy mountains.
Your adventure begins near Lower Pisang as you tread ancient paths once walked by traders along the historic Nepal-Tibet trade route. A major milestone of the trip is crossing Thorong La Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in the world.
The trek is filled with unforgettable highlights: journeying through the contrasting Marshyangdi and Kali Gandaki river valleys, standing at the high mountain pass bordering Tibet, and exploring the Kali Gandaki Gorge on your way to Muktinath—a sacred shrine revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Among all these incredible sights, what will stay etched in your memory forever is walking to the breathtaking high-altitude waters of Tilicho Lake, taking on Thorong La Pass, and visiting Ice Lake. After conquering the pass, you will descend to Muktinath and make your way to the mountain town of Jomsom.
Throughout your journey, our experienced trek leader will guide the way, sharing valuable advice and rich insights about the people and places along the trail. Many who complete the Annapurna Circuit consider it the absolute best trek Nepal has to offer, and trekkers consistently recommend it as a spectacular route. The sheer diversity of landscapes, mountain views, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality make this an incomparable Himalayan experience.

From Chame, you trek toward the ancient village of Lower Pisang. Following a rugged path alongside dramatic rock faces, your trail winds past a changing landscape of pine forests, cascading waterfalls, and views of soaring snowy peaks. As you climb higher into the rain-shadow zone, the terrain transforms into a dramatic, barren, lunar-like landscape before arriving in Lower Pisang.
Pisang is divided into two distinct settlements: Upper Pisang and Lower Pisang. Upper Pisang is the traditional, older village built high on the hillsides. Lined with prayer wheels, mani walls, and chortens, it features ancient stone houses and an iconic hillside monastery. In contrast, Lower Pisang sits along the river valley and houses most of the region’s modern teahouses and lodges.
The inhabitants of Pisang are descendants of Tibetan settlers, maintaining rich Tibetan customs, architecture, and spiritual traditions. From Upper Pisang, you are rewarded with sweeping, close-up views of Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, and Lamjung Himal. Overnight Teahouse in Lower Pisang
Today, you walk along one of the most challenging yet breathtaking sections of the Annapurna Circuit trail. The hike involves steep ascents that reward you with glorious views of the Annapurna Massif and the deep Marshyangdi River valley below. As you ascend into the rain shadow, the landscape transforms into a dramatic, semi-arid terrain reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau, interspersed with fragrant pine forests.
Your trail takes you through the high, picturesque settlements of Ghyaru and Nawal (Ngawal). Although it is a tough climb up to these ridges, the sweeping panoramas are magnificent, with the sharp summits of Annapurna III and Tilicho Peak (Tent Peak) towering directly over the valley. Continue down toward Braga (Braka), an ancient village filled with stone houses built by Tibetan settlers and home to one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Nepal.
From Braga, it is a pleasant, flat walk to Manang. The trail is even and easy, bringing you to this famous, ancient trade hub within just 40 minutes. Upon arrival, check into your teahouse for a warm meal and a well-deserved rest. Overnight Teahouse in Manang
You spend the day in Manang to acclimatize to the higher altitude. Nestled at the foot of Annapurna III, the village offers splendid, close-up views of Gangapurna and the Annapurna range. To help your body adapt to the thinner air, you will take a scenic day hike up to Ice Lake (locally known as Kicho Tal).
The trail to Ice Lake winds steeply along the northern slopes of Chulu East. Upon reaching the top, you will discover the glacial lake, fed directly by the Chulu River flowing down the mountain slopes. Spend some time soaking in the peaceful, heavenly ambiance and taking photographs of the surrounding snow-capped peaks before retracing your steps back down to Manang. Overnight Teahouse in Manang
The journey to Yak Kharka begins with a gentle ascent through high-altitude scenery. Passing through an abandoned mountain settlement, the trail dips down alongside terraced farmlands and cultivated fields.
Another gradual climb brings you to a hilltop ridge, rewarding you with your first full view of Yak Kharka below. From the ridge, follow a steep descent down to the river, cross the footbridge, and walk steadily upward until reaching the village. Traditionally a high alpine grazing pasture used by local yak herders, Yak Kharka is a quiet outpost with just a handful of cozy teahouses offering warm food and shelter for the night. Overnight Teahouse in Yak Kharka
Follow an easy trail toward Tilicho Base Camp, featuring mostly gentle ascents along the way. However, extra caution is needed when navigating the notorious landslide area just before reaching the base camp. The path here is narrow, with loose rocks and scree, so take your time and watch your step carefully.
Once through the landslide zone, walk cautiously along the trail until you arrive at Tilicho Base Camp. Upon arrival, head directly to your teahouse, check into your booked rooms, and enjoy a well-deserved rest in the shadow of the mountains. Overnight Teahouse in Tilicho Base Camp
Today will be one of the most memorable days of your trek as you journey to Tilicho Lake—the second-highest lake in Nepal, sitting at a breathtaking altitude of 4,920 meters.
Your hike begins with a continuous uphill climb, taking you steadily higher until the shimmering lake appears before you. The dark emerald waters of Tilicho Lake, dramatically framed by pure white snow, giant glaciers, and ice, create an unforgettable sight that will surely captivate you.
Spend time capturing photographs and soaking in the heavenly, silent ambiance of the high Himalayas before retracing your steps back down to Siri Kharka. Upon returning to the settlement, head to your teahouse to unwind and enjoy a well-earned evening of relaxation. Overnight Teahouse in Siri Kharka
Today marks the final leg of your journey before making the legendary and challenging traverse across Thorong La Pass. Trekking steadily above 4,000 meters, it is vital to keep a slow, steady pace, stay well-hydrated, and consider taking Diamox if you begin to feel the effects of high altitude.
The trail leads through a serene, remote, and solitary high-alpine landscape where you can soak in the quiet majesty of the mountains. Thorong Phedi rests in a dramatic glacial valley walled in by towering snowy peaks on three sides. Because it is usually freezing at this high stopover point, head straight into a teahouse upon arrival to warm up with hot tea. Be sure to turn in early tonight, as a challenging and rewarding cross-mountain day awaits you tomorrow! Overnight Teahouse in Thorong Phedi
Today’s walk is difficult. You make an early start and head off at the crack of dawn. The trail is steep but easy. The last 600 meters to the highest point of the trek tends to be the toughest. When you finally reach the top of Thorong La Pass, spectacular views of the mountains greet you. Dhaulagiri rises in all its glory. In the distance, you can see the ancient kingdom of Upper Mustang and the Tibetan plateau. Take pictures and celebrate this wonderful moment with your teammates. Afterward, head down to Jomsom via the holy pilgrimage site of Muktinath. As you reach this small settlement, make your way to a guesthouse and rest your aching muscles. Jomsom, a picturesque small town and the headquarters of the Mustang district. Overnight in Jomsom.
After breakfast, transfer to Jomsom Airport for a scenic flight to Pokhara, offering breathtaking aerial views of mountain peaks, deep gorges, and river valleys. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel by 12:00 PM.
After a short rest, embark on a guided tour of Pokhara’s top attractions, including Phewa Lake, Tal Barahi Temple, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, the World Peace Stupa, and the iconic Pumdikot Shiva Temple.
Congratulations on completing the Annapurna Circuit Trek! In the evening, gather with your guide, crew, and fellow trekkers for a well-deserved celebration. Overnight stay in Pokhara.
After breakfast, transfer to Pokhara Airport for your short flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy some leisure time to relax. If you wish to explore more of the city, optional guided tours to additional UNESCO Heritage Sites are available upon request.
In the evening, celebrate the conclusion of your journey with a complimentary farewell dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant. Savor authentic regional cuisine while enjoying a vibrant cultural music and dance performance. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Today, say goodbye to Nepal with wonderful memories of your journey. Our representative will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport three hours prior to your scheduled flight departure.

Altitude Sickness & Acclimatization
You will be trekking under the foothills of 8,000- and 7,000-meter peaks and crossing one of the highest mountain passes in the world, Thorong La (5,416m), the highest point of your trek. In this environment, there is less oxygen, which will lead to breathing difficulties.
To let your body get used to the thin air, you need to walk slowly, steadily, and keep your body hydrated. If you try to hasten and walk fast to reach your destination in less time, chances are you may suffer from AMS or Acute Mountain Sickness.
AMS symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, shortness of breath, fatigue, etc., are seen at elevations above 2,000 meters. Taking Diamox and getting a good night’s rest may work for mild cases. Drinking plenty of fluids (water, tea, soup, etc.) and keeping your body hydrated will also help keep the sickness at bay. One should take the necessary precautions to ensure that the condition does not worsen. But if the symptoms persist even after taking Diamox, one may have to return to a lower elevation and get medical help.
A medical aid post run by the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) in Manang offers treatment for high-altitude sickness and basic care for minor ailments. In the worst-case scenario, an air evacuation will be arranged, where the patient will be flown to Kathmandu or Pokhara to receive medical aid. AMS, if untreated or ignored, can take your life.
Trekking the Annapurna Circuit is a high-altitude trek for which acclimatization is very important. Your body needs time to get used to thin air, which can be done by resting at a lower altitude before ascending higher. Our experts have included two days in the itinerary for acclimatization. You will be spending 2 days in Manang (3,540m) for acclimatization to adapt your body to thin mountain air before going higher.
The chart given below will give you a rough idea about the oxygen level in the atmosphere on the trail.
Drinking Water
Drinking Water & Hydration GuidanceIt is important to keep your body hydrated on the trail, as dehydration can also contribute to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). You should drink at least 3 to 4 liters of fluids daily .Inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, you will find several safe drinking water stations. We highly recommend carrying a reusable water bottle that can hold hot water.
You can use a bottle equipped with a SteriPEN or an inbuilt filtration system like LifeStraw. You can also use water purification tablets to treat your water. While mountain water tends to be clear and free of obvious impurities, it is best not to take chances and to filter or treat all water before drinking.Using chlorine or iodine tablets to treat water may alter its taste.
You can add flavored electrolyte powder (readily available at pharmacies in Kathmandu) to mask any bitter chemical taste. Adding electrolytes to your drinking water is also beneficial, as it replenishes essential minerals (sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc.) lost while walking.Teahouses offer boiled and filtered drinking water for an additional fee.
At some stops, bottled water is also available to buy, costing anywhere from USD $1 to $3. Charges vary depending on altitude (the higher you ascend, the more expensive it becomes) and bottle size.
Internet Connectivity
Staying in touch with family and sharing updates from the trail is quite easy along the Annapurna Circuit. Internet connectivity is available throughout much of the region, though signals can be erratic or irregular in more remote sections.
- Teahouse Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available at almost every teahouse along the route. Please note that most lodges charge a small extra fee (usually a few dollars) to access their Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Mobile Data & Local SIMs: For a more reliable connection, we recommend buying a local SIM card—preferably Ncell—upon arrival in Kathmandu. You can easily purchase mobile data packages to upload pictures, post updates, and stay connected as you trek.
Packing Checklist for Annapurna Circuit
As opposed to popular belief, you don’t need much-complicated gear and equipment for an Annapurna Circuit adventure. Here’s a basic checklist of the essential items that you should not forget to bring with you during your Annapurna Circuit Trek:
- A sturdy pair of trekking boots with good ankle support
- Rucksack or daypack (30 liters) with a waterproof cover

Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake and Ice Lake FAQS
Expand AllCrossing Thorong La Pass (5,416m / 17,768ft) is rated as strenuous to challenging. It requires no technical mountaineering skills, ropes, or climbing gear under normal conditions. However, the difficulty stems from high altitude, low oxygen levels, sub-zero temperatures, and severe wind chill. Summit day requires an early 3:00–4:00 AM start, lasting 8–10 hours, followed by a steep 1,600m descent to Muktinath. Prior cardiovascular physical conditioning is strongly advised.
Our 15-day itinerary builds in crucial acclimatization days (including side hikes to Ice Lake at 4,600m and rest in Manang) to allow your body to adapt gradually. To minimize AMS risk:
- Pace Yourself: Walk slow and steady (“Bistari, Bistari” in Nepali).
- Hydrate Constantly: Drink 3–4 liters of safe drinking water daily.
- Avoid Dehydrants: Refrain from alcohol, smoking, and sleeping tablets at high altitudes.
- Consider Medication: Speak with your doctor about prophylactic Acetazolamide (Diamox).
- Communicate: Immediately inform your licensed guide of any headache, nausea, or dizziness.
No. Under Nepal’s official tourism safety regulations, all international trekkers are required to hire a licensed guide registered with an authorized agency. Independent, unguided foreign trekking is strictly restricted in conservation areas. You can either book a private custom trek or join one of our fixed group departures.
We arrange and cover all required paperwork prior to your trek:
- ACAP Permit: Annapurna Conservation Area Project permit.
- TIMS Card: Trekkers’ Information Management System card. All checkpoint registrations and administrative fees are handled entirely by your trekking guide.
Teahouses are family-run mountain lodges offering basic, clean, twin-sharing rooms equipped with foam mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Bathrooms are usually shared (western-style or squat toilets). Higher up at Tilicho Base Camp and Thorong Phedi, facilities become very simple due to extreme cold and isolation.
You will be provided three warm, energizing meals daily (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) from local teahouse menus.
- Local Dishes: Dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice and vegetables—unlimited refills!), Momo (dumplings), and Thukpa (noodle soup).
- International Dishes: Pasta, fried rice, porridge, pancakes, eggs, and yak-cheese pizza.
- Hot Showers: Gas or solar-heated showers are available at lower elevations for a small fee ($2–$4 USD). Hot water becomes limited or unavailable near base camps.
- Charging Devices: Electronic device charging (phones, camera batteries, power banks) is available via hydro or solar power for a fee ($2–$5 USD per device).
- Wi-Fi: Available at most lodges up to Manang, though speeds drop significantly above 3,500m. We recommend purchasing an Ncell or NTC SIM card in Kathmandu for mobile data.
Prices are based on twin-sharing accommodation. If you travel solo and want a private single room in Kathmandu/Pokhara, and private teahouse rooms during the trek, a Single Supplement Fee applies.
Note: During peak season at high camps (Tilicho Base Camp & Thorong Phedi), room availability is extremely tight, and room-sharing may be required regardless of single supplement status.
No. Personal items like bottled water, hot drinks, Wi-Fi, laundry, alcoholic beverages, and souvenir shopping are extra. Additionally, tipping your guide and porters at the end of the trip is traditional practice in Nepal to show appreciation for their hard work (we suggest budgeting roughly 10%–15% of total trek cost toward group staff tips).
Our porters carry up to 12–15 kg (26–33 lbs) per trekker in the heavy-duty duffel bag we provide. You will carry a lightweight 20–30L daypack during walking hours containing your daily essentials: water, camera, extra jacket, sunblock, and personal valuables. Excess travel luggage can be safely stored at your hotel in Kathmandu or Pokhara for free.
Yes, valid travel and medical insurance is mandatory. Your policy must specifically cover high-altitude trekking up to 5,500 meters and include emergency helicopter evacuation, medical treatment, and trip cancellation. Standard travel insurance usually caps altitude limits at 3,000m, so double-check your policy terms prior to departure.
- Autumn (September – November): Stable weather, warm days, crisp alpine air, and exceptional crystal-clear mountain views.
- Spring (March – May): Warmer daylight hours, longer days, and brilliant rhododendron blooms covering lower elevation forests.
Yes, charging facilities are available at almost all teahouses along the Annapurna Circuit. Lower-altitude lodges run on grid electricity, while higher-altitude teahouses rely on hydroelectricity or solar power.
Teahouses charge a small nominal fee ($2–$5 USD) to charge devices like smartphones, camera batteries, and high-capacity power banks. Because battery power drains significantly faster in cold sub-zero temperatures, we strongly recommend carrying a 10,000mAh–20,000mAh power bank and keeping electronic devices inside your sleeping bag at night to conserve battery life.
Your safety is our absolute priority. Our licensed trekking guides are fully trained in wilderness first aid and high-altitude emergency protocols. They carry comprehensive first-aid kits and digital pulse oximeters to monitor your oxygen levels and heart rate daily.
If you show symptoms of severe Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) or sustain an injury, the primary action is an immediate, supported descent to a lower elevation with a crew member. In critical situations where rapid evacuation is needed, our emergency contact team coordinates swift helicopter rescue and medical evacuation directly to a hospital in Pokhara or Kathmandu, interfacing directly with your travel insurance provider.
We can easily accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets throughout the entire trek.
Teahouse menus in the Annapurna region are exceptionally diverse and naturally lean heavily toward plant-based cooking.
- Vegetarian: Widely available everywhere (we actually recommend eating vegetarian meals above Chame for optimal health and hygiene).
- Vegan: Traditional staples like Dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice and cooked vegetables), vegetable noodle soups, fried rice/noodles, and oat porridge made with water are readily available. Simply let your guide know so they can request meals cooked without ghee or butter.
- Gluten-Free: Options such as Dal Bhat, boiled or fried potatoes, rice dishes, eggs, and traditional buckwheat dishes (Dhindo) are available at all lodges. If you have severe celiac disease, we advise bringing certified gluten-free snack bars from Kathmandu.
