Best Time

The subtropical highland climates of Kathmandu and Pokhara each have different seasons with varying precipitation and temperatures. The weather and the activities you have planned will determine the ideal time to visit Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Although Nepal welcomes visitors all year round, autumn and spring are regarded as two of the best times of year to visit these towns. The weather is bright and clear throughout this period, which makes it ideal for activities.

With its flowering rhododendrons and comfortable temps, spring is the perfect season for hiking, exploring, and outdoor pursuits. Holi and Nepali New Year are two holidays that are held in Kathmandu at this time of year, so you may take part in the festivities.

Autumn, regarded as the peak season, has bright skies and temperatures between 12°C and 22°C on average. This season is also when the big festivals, including Dashain and Tihar, take place, providing a useful window into Nepalese customs and culture.

Depending primarily on your travel preferences, you may explore Pokhara and Kathmandu throughout the summer. Rainfall that lasts for hours or days is to be expected every day, which will make sightseeing difficult and interfere with outdoor activities.

Winter provides pleasant days for touring without the heat of summer, with cool evenings and mornings. The best time of year to see the Himalayas is during the winter. Winter offers a calmer ambiance with fewer visitors than the busy peak season.

Therefore, spring and fall are the best seasons for bright skies and comfortable temperatures. You may explore in the off-season for a more calm experience. However, spring and autumn are usually seen to be the best seasons for a whole trip to Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Money Exchange and ATM Facilities

You will have easy access to ATMs and currency exchange during your six-day trip to Kathmandu and Pokhara. The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the country’s official currency, while some shops in tourist destinations could take other currencies.

Especially in well-known tourist destinations like Thamel, there are plenty of ATMs in Kathmandu. The majority of ATMs take Visa and MasterCard as well as other foreign debit and credit cards.

There are also a number of authorized money exchange desks where you may exchange currencies. You must show your passport to complete the purchase; however, these desks offer more affordable prices than hotels or airports.

You may easily use ATMs and money exchange facilities in the Lakeside region as you go to Pokhara, giving you the freedom to get local currency for your spending. Make sure you have enough cash on hand when you arrive in Kathmandu so that you may exchange or withdraw enough to cover your expenses during the 6-day tour.

Packing Lists for the Tour to Kathmandu and Pokhara

The weather and season should be taken into consideration while packing clothing and equipment. Your packing list should include items for both cultural discovery and outdoor excursions, such as touring historic temples, taking in tranquil lakeside vistas, and participating in adventure activities in Pokhara.

For your journey to be both enjoyable and safe, you must have the appropriate equipment. Here is a thorough guide on packing effectively:

Important Documents

  • Passport and Visa: Bring a copy of your Nepal visa and make sure your passport is valid for at least six months.
  • Tickets for flights and the itinerary: Your tickets and tour information can be printed or saved digitally.
  • Travel insurance should cover adventurous activities, medical crises, and trip cancellations.
  • Identification: Keep a backup driver’s license or ID card with you.
  • Important connections, such as your nation’s embassy in Nepal, should be noted down for emergencies.

Other Accessories

  • Hat for the sun
  • Sunglasses
  • Lip balm, moisturizer, sunscreen, and various creams
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather
  • T-shirts made of cotton
  • A waterproof garment
  • A down jacket
  • Cotton trousers
  • Cozy footwear
  • Gloves
  • Kits for first aid

Entry permits and visa requirements

You might not require any extra permits for the Kathmandu and Pokhara Holiday Tour specifically since it is intended for sightseeing and quick side visits. Because visiting these locations is more about sightseeing and cultural experiences than hiking or going into forbidden zones.

Therefore, most visitors do not require special hiking or admission permits to enter these cities. However, you might have to get special entrance permits or pay conservation fees if your schedule involves excursions to locations close to Pokhara, such as Annapurna Conservation Area or Chitwan National Park.

The procedure of obtaining a visa is simple, and many tourists may obtain one when they arrive at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Depending on the duration of stay, the price varies: a 15-day visa costs about USD 30, a 30-day visa costs USD 50, and a 90-day visa costs USD 125.

Make sure you have the essential paperwork, such as a current passport, pictures, and the cost, and find out ahead of time whether your country needs a prearranged visa approval.
